Prostate Cancer Symptoms - Treatment Cures

The exact cause for prostate cancer is unknown but there are several risk factors which can be observed. Some of these factors are a high fat diet or heritage for example.

Prostate cancer symptoms can only be experienced when the patient has developed the cancer in a larger scale already. The only other way to detect prostate cancer in an early state is having a screening examination.

After the cancer has broken out already, you could have symptoms like weak or interrupted urine flow, blood in the urine or a pain in the back, thighs or hips. There could also be a burning sensation.

Early detection of the cancer is vital. As stated already, it is important to have a screening examination in order to detect the cancer early. If detected early enough the cancer is curable.

The doctor will also put his digit into the rectum to feel any lumps in the prostate. If he finds any abnormalities, the doctor will order an blood test to find out if a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is in the blood. While low amounts of PSA are ok, a high amount of PSA is a strong sign for cancer.

Another test is the transrectal ultrasound which shows a pretty accurate picture of the prostate gland. This painless procedure can detect tumors within twenty minutes.

If the tests above are positive in any form, a prostate biopsy is necessary to confirm the results. A small piece of the tissue is removed by using a needle. If there are any cancer cells then they will show up under the microspore. The biopsy is still the most accurate way to diagnose prostate cancer. It goes quickly and doesn't hurt too much.

Once the cancer is detected, the doctor must find out how much it has spread already. An x-ray can show if the cancer has reached the lungs already. A computer tomography or magnetic resonance imaging can also make internal organs visible.

For the treatment of prostate cancer a urologist, oncologist and a surgeon is required. The surgery is the most common treatment option with the aim to totally remove cancer from the body. However, the surgery can have some serious side effects. This is why some prefer another therapy called cryosurgery which uses ultrasound and liquid nitrogen.

Prognosis for early caner treatment is good. Over 95% of men are alive after five years. A later detection of the cancer which has spread already in other areas of the body still has a prognosis of 30% survival rate after 5 years.
